Now that it’s been received, I can finally show you what I made for our Imagine Circle (do. Good Stitches) swap partner!
I had a really, really hard time sending this away, but I’m glad I did, because she liked it! I noticed from stalking her Flickr photos that she likes plus blocks, texty prints, scrappy things, and rainbow colors. One of the items on her wish list was a tote, plus favorite colors of pink and teal, so I managed to get them all into one tote for her. I even used some of my absolute favorite seed garden print on the back (don’t worry, I have more!), and that was the first time I dared to cut into it.
The pattern is the Perfect Quilted Tote by Elizabeth Hartman, and I really loved the pattern. Elizabeth is extremely thorough in her directions (I believe this pattern topped 30 pages!), so it’s very easy to follow. I’ll definitely be making another one of these for myself!

I’m so glad you like it! :)

I have been wanting to make this tote for a while but I don’t want to buy another pattern that I can’t understand. I have made a quilt and a few bags but I am new to the sewing world. Do you think this would be a pattern a begginer could make without lots of problems? Thanks for your help!
I added your blog to my bloglovin feed!

Jessica, did you do any free-motion quilting for your quilt? If so, then I do think Elizabeth’s pattern would be easy enough to follow. It does have a zipper, but even if you haven’t done one before, her instructions are very clear and easy to understand. If you haven’t done any free-motion quilting, you’d probably want to practice some first. Her quilt-as-you-go method is pretty easy and just uses straight lines, but you’d want to practice on some scraps first to get the hang of it. It’s a really great pattern, especially compared to the paper patterns you buy in big-box stores (i.e. Joann’s). Those can be very difficult to follow, but most bloggers’ patterns, I’ve found, are much easier to follow.

Thank you so much for taking the time to email me and respond to my question! You quilty people are just too sweet! I did not do any free motion quilting on my quilt but I did quilt it with cross hatch lines with a walking foot. I have never done a zipper but I’m sure if I take my time that would be no problem if I have the right person teaching me or the right pattern to follow! This sounds totally doable! Thanks a bunch for your help!

No problem Jessica! It definitely sounds like you could do this one – I did straight lines with a walking foot for the quilting on the panels. Good luck!!
